Diffusion and Osmosis
Science Experiement Diffusion Osmosis.jpg

Hypothesis
If osmosis and diffusion is true then we put the eggs in the hypertonic and hypotonic solutions they will ether grow or get smaller and become heavier or lighter depending on what solution is goes in. This happens because diffusion causes molecules to even throughout low and high concentration. Osmosis will allow molecules to pass by the cell membrane.

Materials
4 eggs water
corn syrup table salt
vinegar food colouring
(these materials are all shown in the figures above)

Procedure
1. We placed eggs in vinegar for 3 days
2.After 3 days we took the eggs out of the vinegar
3. We weighed all the eggs and recorded it
4. We put the eggs in warm water, salt water and corn syrup (in figure 2)
5. We out egg 1 in corn syrup, egg 2 in salt water and egg 3 in warm water (figure 2)
6. We let in sit in the solutions for a few hours
7. We took them out and weighed them. all 3 masses changed
8. Next they got placed in different solutions egg 1 went in water, egg 2 sat in the air, egg 3 went in corn syrup
9. They sat for a few hours
10. We took them out and weighed them again
11. Most of there mass's changed

Observations

Egg 1
Egg 2
Egg 3
Mass 1
89g
90g
97g
Mass 2
39g
94g
98g
Mass 3
86g
94g
74g
Eggs were removed from the vinegar and had no shell hy appear larger than a regular egg, which has a mass of 65g. The eggs went into the 3 beakers and were left to sit for awhile.Egg 1 had a mass change of 50g going into the corn syrup. We put it back into the water where it added 47g. Egg 2 went into water and gained 4g, then sat in the air and the weight didn't change at all. Egg 3 went into salt water where it gained 1g, then went in corn syrup where it lost weight 74g.

Conclusion
is experiment we proved osmosis and diffusion is true. The molecules passed through the cell membrane and went from a high concentration area to a low concentration area.

Relevance

The reason we are alive from osmosis because it allows water and nutrience molecules to mass through the cell membrane.
